Creative Craft Ideas for Kids – Kiwi Crate Review

Being a mother of a very active little girl as well as a little baby, I’m always looking for educational and easy craft ideas to keep my kids occupied.

Sometimes when life gets too busy and I don’t have time to research activities or go out to purchase craft supplies, I’m so thankful that I have resources such as Kiwi Crate to keep my child happy and engaged.

What Is Kiwi Crate

Kiwi Crate is a art and craft kit for kids that is delivered to you every month. Each kit contains 2 art, craft or science projects and each monthly subscription has a different theme. It comes with kid friendly instructions and relevant information about the theme that is both interesting and educational. Kiwi Crate craft kits are designed to encourage creativity, exploration and discovery.

Why Kiwi Crate

The arrival of Kiwi Crate is something both Elle and I look forward to every month.

She gets SO excited when the little green box arrives because she knows there are fun craft activities inside. I get excited because I know the art and craft projects in the box will enhance her creative abilities and expedite her mental development. It prompts her to think, create, learn and be proud of herself.

Doing the crafts and activities in the box is a way for us to connect and spend quality time with each other.

If you are a busy parent who wishes to take time out of your hectic schedule and spend it to build memories with your child, here are some reasons why I would recommend Kiwicrate.

Designed for Busy Parents

I won’t lie about Kiwi Crate being my very first choice when it comes to art projects and craft activities for kids. I have tried a couple of projects and have also attempted from-the-scratch DIY projects.

The problem with DIY projects is it takes a lot of time; not just the crafting phase, but also the research phase. It takes me at least 30 minutes to research activities suitable for Elle’s age. When I find an activity I think she’ll like, planning and buying the supplies needed takes me an extra 45 minutes.

Boxed arts and crafts kits completed with all the supplies and instructions such as Kiwi Crate is a great solution.

Since Kiwi Crate already planned out the craft ideas suitable for your kids and included everything in the box, it saves you research time as well as time needed to get the supplies. It also saves you money because all the supplies are included so you don’t have to buy a package of something and only use a little bit of it.

The company really do have busy parents in mind when they’re designing these art and craft kits for kids.

What is Included

What I LOVE most about Kiwi Crate is everything you need is included. From tools to materials, everything you need to create your 2 activities is inside the box. Sometimes the activities require small parts like features or glue dots and they package those so neatly into little bags for you.

Each craft comes with it’s own very easy, kid friendly instructional booklet along with simple and cute drawings. These booklets are in full colour making reading instructions super fun for kids.

Each theme also comes with an extra book of activities or craft ideas to further explore the theme.

These Kiwi Crate craft kits are designed for kids aged 3-7. However, Elle got her first box when she was 2 and a half and she was able to do the activities with my assistance. I also have fun when doing these craft activities meant for kids so I’m pretty sure children who are older than 7 will enjoy it as well.

More to Explore!

With each activity, Kiwi Crate lets you know which six development areas the craft involves – creating, discovering, exploring, moving, caring and communicating. Each activity is reviewed by child development experts such as professors of education, arts educator and child psychologists. These really smart people make sure the activities are developmentally appropriate and enriching for your children.

Each activity also has a messiness meter that is like a warning sign for parents. The messy activities usually involve water or glue. It’s really not a big deal as long as I have towels ready to clean messy hands or in case something spills.

Safety First!

All the tools and materials included in the box are completely safe for your children. The paint and glues they use are non-toxic. Things such as scissors (which was included in our very first crate) might require your supervision.

Kiwi Crate Pricing

The price for Kiwi Crate is between $16.95 to $19.99 depending on which subscription you’re getting. Shipping is free in the US. If you have more than 1 child and needs extra supplies, you can opt for the sibling add on and is $7.95/month.

One thing that upsets me is that free shipping is not available for Canada (US only), despite the ‘free shipping’ flashing everywhere on the website. Despite the additional shipping charge, I still find a lot of value in the product and believe it is worth every penny.

The Real Value

Kiwi Crate helps me connect and bond with my child through their activities and is also helping her learn and develop new skills. It makes me feel like I’m doing a good job as a parent because we are spending quality time together doing something fun and learning together.

Even after the activity is finished, we are still taking about the things we learned. For example, in the bird crate, it talks about how different birds make different nests so now when we go outside we are looking for bird nests.

I may sound like an overwhelmed fan here, but I am not the only one. Honestly, I can’t find a reason why any parent would not be impressed. You will find a plethora of Kiwi Crate reviews written by real parents.

“Thank You Team Kiwi Crate, for bringing our family together and for expanding our kids’ minds in a fun and educational way”   – Amy (not me)

“Everything is complete and engaging and Educational…I Love It!”    – Kristi

And I am quite sure that you will love it too. Trust me, Kiwi Crate offers better value than most educational toys or craft boxes you will find.

For all the time you will get to enjoy with your child, with all the things your child will learn and with all the memories you will create together, $19.95/ month is worth every penny.

That is an amazing idea. I wish they had things like this when my kids were little. It would make life so much easier. Don’t even get me started on how Pinterest would have affected their craft skills…

I always look at Kiwi Crates, consider them and then decide not to get them because of the Canadian Shipping. This would be a really great thing to ask for as a birthday present from aunts, uncles or grandparents though. One of these days I’ll probably just bite the bullet and subscribe myself. 🙂
