a letter to my daughter: what you teach me by the way you laugh

Below is a letter to my daughter I wrote when she was 21 months old.

Dear Ellie Bee,

There is a quote that says ‘while we try to teach our children about life, our children teach us what life is all about’.

You do that. You teach me what life is about by the way you laugh.

When you laugh, you’ll so full of life and the light that is inside you shines so bright. The way you squint your eyes and make wrinkles on the bridge of your nose adds to your mischievous personality.

So happy.
So in the moment.
So carefree.

I want to live my life just like that.

Every time you laugh, you remind me this is what life is about – to be happy and to be present in the moment.

Life is made up of many, many moments. If we are happy, carefree and present in all these moments, then it’s inevitable we will live a happy and carefree life.

Thank you for teaching me this.

You are amazing.

You are 21 months and 9 days old today.
